Our Team

Jenny Kontos

Vice President and Creative Director

Jenny is an award-winning designer with more than 15 years of strategic communication and
design experience. Her passion for producing both strategically focused and aesthetically pleasing communications is what drives her to create. Jenny is a graduate of East Tennessee State University and The University of Tennessee. She is a Leadership Kingsport graduate, 40 under Forty recipient, and is active in the community, serving on various boards and committees. Jenny has lived on the West Coast, East Coast, and several places in between before settling down in Jonesborough, Tennessee. Along for the journey are her husband, two children, three rescue pets, and six chickens.

Jane Hillhouse

Jane Hillhouse

She’s a giver and a server — also entrepreneurial, insatiably creative, and goal-driven. A graduate of Central Missouri State University, Jane Hillhouse launched Hillhouse Graphic Design in 1984. Today, her company is one of the leading, woman-owned advertising and marketing firms in the Southeast. She received the coveted American Advertising Federation Silver Medal in 2003, and her firm (rebranded Hillhouse Creative) has garnered more than 75 awards for various achievements. Also a talented musician (she’s played in local symphonies for three decades), Jane is a community advocate and works on numerous local committees and boards of directors — including the advisory council for STREAMWORKS Education, Eastman’s Community Advisory Panel, and board of directors for the Kingsport Chamber Foundation. A teacher at heart, Jane is a leader with clear focus and supreme practicality.

Jimmy Caswell

Senior Graphic Designer

Some people know Jimmy Caswell for his drumming acumen, displayed most Sundays at Crossroads United Methodist Church. But during the week, his work as senior graphic designer at Hillhouse Creative unleashes his uncanny ability to transform colors and graphics into award-winning, branding products. Jimmy, who studied art at Berea College (Kentucky), joined our team in 2007 and brings more than 20 years of experience to his position. His deliberate and thoughtful design work is an asset to our clients. Jimmy hails from a family of artisans and his work has been repeatedly chosen (2002, 2004, 2006, 2011) for use as official logo for Fun Fest, the city of Kingsport’s premier annual event. Off the clock, he is the ultimate family guy and enjoys spending weekends with his boys.

Jay Huron

Media Director

While some people run in circles, Jay Huron literally runs with wolves several times a week as a surrogate parent for wolf puppies at Bay’s Mountain Park (Kingsport, Tennessee). A lover of feral situations, Jay joined Hillhouse Creative in 2002 and currently serves as director of new media, navigating digital projects that involve interface design, backend programming, and interactive media applications. Jay has more than 13 years experience in the industry. His talent with manipulating images have earned him the moniker of “Photoshop Wizard” at the office and he is our go-to guy for website/email trouble-shooting. A fine art graduate (East Tennessee State University) and a prize-winning photographer, his luminous photo depicting historic Jonesborough (Tennessee) was a 2014 Reader’s Digest Made in America photo contest winner.

Sandy Vowell

Expediter & Quality Control Director

Unbridled adventurer describes Sandy Vowell, whose family of five children with her husband Paul once rented an RV and traveled 7,000 miles across 20 U.S. states. It was a defining credential for Sandy when she came to interview at Hillhouse Creative in 2006 — that, along with her 12 years of experience working in printing and publishing. Her background includes: executing all outside custom print services for Kinko’s/FedEx, managing custom print sales for Sabre Printers, handling promotions for regional book publisher The Overmountain Press, and being publicist and inventory manager for The Book Place — all located in Johnson City, Tennessee. Although she studied computer science in college, she thrives in the Mad Men world of advertising, PR, new media and marcom. Away from her desk and when she’s not traveling, she can be found scrapbooking and fulfilling her passion as a Nana to two grandkids.

Chuck Hillhouse

Accountant and Information Systems Manager

A cross between Ralph Landau and Steve Jobs, Chuck Hillhouse is a retired senior chemical engineer from a Fortune 500 company and husband of company founder Jane Hillhouse. A consummate multitasker, Chuck has served as the firm’s accountant, information systems manager and maintenance director for more than three decades. He is an adjunct chemistry and physical science instructor for a local community college and also oversees a side business, Chuck IT Computer Rescue and Repair. He likes to entertain the office with stories of how things work, and we are always fascinated to see how this engineer functions in our creative environment.
