People Incorporated Website Redesign
Since we first designed the website for People Incorporated in 2009, there have been lots of changes in the way websites can and should function. The organization itself had undergone changes in the intervening years as well, and their website needed to reflect those updates.
Because People Incorporated offers a wide variety of services in a large geographical area, their website contained a vast amount of important information. Our client wanted to make it easier for their staff to make quick changes and updates to the site in-house, as well as improve functionality for all of the site’s users. In addition, they needed their site to be modernized so it would be mobile- and social media-friendly.
We started by meeting with our client to uncover their needs for the new website. These discussions helped us understand what content they needed to keep, what needed to be removed, and what needed to be updated. We were also able to determine how visitors use their site and the type of functionality the site needed to be most helpful to those users.
We then conducted a comprehensive audit of the site’s content and collaborated with the client to rework their site map to make it more intuitive for visitors. As the heart of the website, the “services” section was particularly important to organize effectively. Many services overlap categories, so we studied those closely to make sure the staff could quickly and easily make updates to those areas on their own while ensuring consistency across the board.
The new and improved People Incorporated website is much easier for users to navigate. Visitors now have multiple ways to locate specific services: They can use the map to see what services are offered in their city, they can use the link in the navigation bar to filter services by category, or they can use the “find a service” button to see the full list.
In addition, People Incorporated can share their website links directly to social media with the confidence that they will display properly sized graphics. And for each service, they have the option to toggle an interest form on and off — streamlining the information sharing process even further.
Just as importantly, employees are empowered to make content changes easily and quickly, and the site serves as a powerful tool in their marketing efforts, as they are now able to measure the success of initiatives through website analytics.
In just the first few months, the site demonstrated an upward trend in the number of visitors, and the analytics prove that users are navigating the site more easily and sticking around longer. The average session has increased almost 3X! We are pleased with these results – they mean that more people are learning about and accessing the valuable services People Incorporated offers.
