Regional Center for Advanced Manufacturing (RCAM)

Building the 21stCentury Workforce

The Regional Center for Advanced Manufacturing (RCAM) is one of the nation’s first dedicated Advanced Manufacturing training centers—unique because it is the result of a cooperative effort between education, government, and industry partners. The initiative supports economic development and workforce development goals for Kingsport and the Appalachian Highlands region.

Hillhouse Creative worked with RCAM’s Advanced Manufacturing Partnership (AMP) leadership team to provide a full range of creative design, branding, marketing, public relations, and digital tools for RCAM’s opening and initial program development. The start-up campaign focused on three essential areas: public/community awareness, student recruitment in support of workforce needs and regional economic development opportunities. Hillhouse has continued to provide creative services and graphic design in cooperation with Northeast State Community College, RCAM’s managing partner.

RCAM opened for the 2009-10 academic year, and a support campaign for career guidance, 21st Century Workers, began the summer of 2010. In the first three years, RCAM student enrollment saw a 293% growth, hundreds of industry-related training hours were logged, and RCAM received dozens of industry-related inquires. Program and training demand required the addition of a second facility, RCAM Academy, in the spring of 2018. The expansion accommodates increased dual enrollment programs and partnership with regional Career Technical Education programs.
